Sales of existing
homes unexpectedly
rose by 3.9% in
February, the
largest monthly gain
in three years, the
National Association
of Realtors reported
March 23. The price
of a median home
sold last month
dropped to $212,800,
down by 1.3% from
the same month in
2006, marking a
record seven
straight months that
the median home
price has fallen.
The spring market
has sprung, now is
the time to buy.
Federal Reserve
policymakers announced
on March 21 that they
would leave the central
bank's key federal funds
rate -- the rate that
banks charge one another
for overnight loans --
at 5.25%, where it has
remained since June
2006. What does that
mean to you? If you have
a home equity line of
credit (HELOC) your rate
will not adjust - that's
great news.

these
easy
tips
for

What you can do at home
1. Switch to non-toxic household cleaning products Why? The internal environment is two to five times as polluted as the external environment, according to the EPA. Long-term or delayed health effects of household cleaners have been linked to cancer, endocrine disruption and reproductive issues; other effects include asthma, organ damage and neurological problems.
Non-toxic alternatives can be found at natural food stores such as Whole Foods or Trader Joeˇ¦s, and increasingly, at regular supermarkets. However, because the industry is not regulated, check the label before buying, to make sure that you understand ingredients.
Some household cleaning products cannot be thrown into the garbage and should be disposed of at a hazardous waste site. To find a site near you, go to www.earth911.org.
